This month’s CD reviews include: Doves, Neil Young, Super Furry Animals and Chet Baker. Feel free to comment and let us know what you think… Doves Kingdom of Rust Astralwerks; 2009 If you haven’t heard of Doves, it’s certainly not for their lack of trying. The trio formed officially in 1998, but their roots extend as far back as the early ’80s, years which saw them (in several different guises) release a slew of now legendary demos and a ludicrously springy club hit, “Ain’t... Rockford has got to be the coolest cat I’ve ever met. Seriously. He’s notorious along our beaches for being seen riding shotgun in his owner’s heavy duty black truck. It’s one of his favorite activities, and he’s accustomed to at least one ride a day in the morning. A nearly 5-year-old bobcat, Rockford has lived with Kirk and Tracy since he was a mere 4-weeks-old. He has his own bedroom with bunk beds (he sleeps on the top bunk) in a canal-front beachside home. His... [Read more...]

From scorched earth to painted desert, spring brings an explosion of wildflowers to the Valley. Just uttering the grim name of Death Valley conjures up visions of lost wagon trains, ravenous vultures and the bleached bones of dead horses littering a stark, waterless landscape. California’s Death Valley is one of the hottest and driest places in the world. Summer temperatures often top 110 degrees and in the Furnace Creek area of the Valley, the highest reported temperature ever recorded in... [Read more...]

With less rain at this time of year, the snorkeling and diving options look better. There have been lots of improvement to the roads and infrastructure in the area, making it easier to access the white sand beachbreaks... [Read more...]

Article Category: Sebastian Fishing Report
May brings closure to the snook season for Sebastian Inlet anglers. The full moon in April brought good numbers of baitfish into the inlet and along the flats in the river. Schools of good-size mojarras and greenies are keeping the snook and other game fish active in the inlet for most of the day. Redfish, ladyfish, bluefish and jacks have all been waiting in the channels to feed on the bait as they move through the inlet. Live shrimp are still a good standby option, just in case the baitfishes... [Read more...]

Your Cocoa Beach Surfrider Foundation chapter is up and running…really good! Okay, here’s where I knock on wood (or my head) and say “Let’s not jinx this.” It’s not unusual for any organization, including Surfrider chapters, to spurt, sputter and, unfortunately, sometimes even fail before they become firmly established. Surfrider in Cocoa Beach is, step-by-step, building its solid foundation for long-term success. Many of you remember the three years we worked... [Read more...]

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Or: Help! Aliens want our Gold and Silver Jewelry! My husband was out of town for a couple of weeks recently and I decided to re-do our master bedroom and bath. You know, new bedding, towels, and a general re-arranging of furniture and junk. It gave me something creative to do while the guy was away, with the added benefit that he’d be tripping all over stuff for a few days on his return. I guess what they say about payback is true. Anyway, during my furniture-shoving,... [Read more...]
