One for all and all for one; one groove and one band, this local trio is made up of Shain Honkonen on guitar and vocals, Jake Hogeland on drums and backup vocals and Craig Jenkins on bass. They met in August of 2008 and have been playing heavily around our area ever since.
This young band groove together during their guitar-driven choruses to create an almost Rush-like sound. Though loose and adventuresome, they avoid being too jam-bandy by keeping their songs under 5-6 minutes, and with the drums serving as a solid backbone, they devise a wholly powerful sound that’s truly a taste of something different. In addition to several ’70s-inspired originals like “Crazy” and the infectious “Sympathy,” One also offer adoring crowds their own twist on classic rock and reggae hits.
One are very busy in July; on the 3rd they’ll be playing at Off the Traxx from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. (918 E. New Haven Ave.; Downtown Melbourne; 327-2919). The 4th sees a double-header: they’ll play from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Capt. Hiram’s (1606 Indian River Dr.; Sebastian; 772-589-4345), then from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at The Sandbar (4301 Ocean Beach Blvd.; Cocoa Beach; 799-2577).
