This month, Stoney of the famed Stoney and the House Rockers will be rocking the beach solo during a Tuesday residency at Long Doggers in Melbourne. Fresh off of a United Way benefit, Stoney plays the Space Coast — from Vero to Port Canaveral — with rave reviews for his incendiary solo act. He blows his heavily-saturated Hohner harmonica over pre-recorded background music so you don’t miss the full-band effect of his songs. Whether it’s originals or covers, he’s sure to get you moving.
Sponsored by Island Music of Merritt Island, Stoney offers an excellent blend of Motown funk and R & B music that will get even the youngest music lover dancing. Stoney’s most recent shows have been at Long Doggers in Melbourne across from the King Center, and have turned out to be very family-friendly as Stoney works the crowd with his harmonica, often to many a young grom’s delight. And he isn’t afraid to throw in some Beatles, Elvis Presley or Willie Nelson to keep the older members of the crowd on their toes. For a fun family evening check out this jewel of the Space Coast.
Stoney has a CD entitled Cruisin’ for a Bluesin’, which is available now and has another recording in the works. You can catch him every Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Long Doggers in Melbourne (2870 Post Rd.; 751-4448 ). He’ll be appearing with the House Rockers Friday, July 10 at Matt’s Casbah (801 E. New Haven Ave; Downtown Melbourne; 574-1099) from 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Saturday, July 11 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Beach Shack (1 Minutemen Cswy.; Cocoa Beach; 783-2250).
