A STATE OF BECOMING by Joyce Billet

Stop by the Armory and experience the connection between the natural world and human technology in this exhibition by Joyce Billet.

“At the core of my practice is an exploration of how humanity can grow in harmony with nature while embracing technology. Living plants and wood are integral to my work, introducing growth, transformation, and unpredictability into dialogue with constructed forms. I translate hand-painted gestures through digital and machine-driven processes, creating an exchange between the human hand, technology, and material. Working primarily with plywood, I create works that move between painting, sculpture, and installation. Through the interplay of organic growth and technological processes, my work explores how natural and human-made forces can shape, transform, and coexist with one another.” – Joyce Billet

Laughter transcends boundaries, uniting diverse cultures, mending emotional scars, challenging societal norms, and illuminating life’s ironies in surprising ways. In the realm of art, humor serves a purpose beyond simple amusement; it ignites dialogue, eases the weightiest subjects, and adds a touch of brightness to our world. The Armory Art Center is excited to announce HUMOROUS, a juried exhibition from Florida-based artists that honors the cleverness, satire, and whimsical absurdity found in visual art. We encourage artists to express their creativity through humor, whether it be through playful charm, sharp wit, or exaggerated hilarity, showcasing the many delightful dimensions of laughter.
