Master Artist Workshop: Representing the Shifting Identity in Portrait Painting with Jason John

Join artist and professor Jason John for an immersive, hands-on workshop that guides painters through the complete creative process, from shaping a compelling composition to applying the final, luminous layers of paint. Blending classical techniques with contemporary sensibilities, Jason demystifies each stage of his figurative painting process through thoughtful demonstrations, guided exercises, and individualized feedback. Throughout the workshop, he emphasizes how painters can use form, color, and visual narrative to communicate the nuance and complexity of identity within their work.

This workshop set is ideal for artists who want to build a stronger technical foundation, deepen their understanding of the human figure, and confidently transform reference material into expressive paintings that speak to personal and cultural identity.
